A lot of people think it's a good idea to tax business rather than individuals. Unfortunately, business taxes get passed on to the consumer just like any other business expense. And it is passed on without regard to the customer's ability to pay. So we might just as well eliminate the middle man and tax the individual directly. That way, incomes below the poverty level are protected. I want to do away will all business taxes. This does not mean business income - profit, rent, interest - won't be taxed. They will be taxed as personal income received by Michigan citizens. Corporate profits will be taxed in the form of stockholder dividends. No income will escape taxation; all will be taxed as personal income. Elimination of business taxes along with the weakening of organized labor will make Michigan much more attractive to business. The unemployment rate will drop and income of Michigan citizens will increase. Increased personal income will allow us to decrease other taxes.
